Career films x 2
One career film entitled 'Occupational therapy as a career' is a general promotional film providing an overview of the OT role (featuring many OT's), describing their different responsibilities; a description of OT with images to support the voice over; service user information and details of university programmes and different work settings. This film is aimed at the public who may be thinking about a career in health or social care, and may therefore be attracted to an OT career.
We premiered this film on a stand that we had at a recent career advisor exhibition. The film attracted much interest from careers advisors, so much so, that some of them decided they would be keen to retrain and become an OT!
The second one is entitled 'A student journey' and is a documentary featuring Bethan who is an OT student during her studies at university and on placement. This documentary will provide additional information on the OT role and university programme for those individuals who are already interested in becoming an OT, but want more information on the university programme.
The documentary follows Bethan during her course, and shows her with a service user in their wheelchair, in a classroom, undertaking manual handling training, attending anatomy/physiology and mental health classes, and on placement in a hospital. It also includes an interview with Gary who has MS, describing how his OT helped him.
Consumer film x 1 entitled 'How occupational therapy can help people'
This film is designed to help the public understand how an occupational therapist can help people, and we feature four service users - see below - who have been helped by an occupational therapist. This will complement the career promo films for anyone who needs more information on how occupational therapy can make a difference. It has the College's website details on the closing caption to direct people to our website for more information:
Gary - who has Multiple Sclerosis
Dina - a 2 year old girl who had a stroke
Rasheeda - an older lady in her 80's who is having difficulties remaining at home
Matt - who had bipolar disorder and was unable to work
'Supporting the UK Occupational Therapy Research Foundation' film
This film has been produced to highlight awareness - amongst OT's and companies who support our profession - that we need financial donations to commission research to enable us to demonstrate that OT makes a valuable contribution to the health and wellbeing of the UK population. It features three service users and how their lives have benefited from OT intervention.
